We are a small team, with an impressive reach and remit across alcohol regulation, marketing and responsibility. The Portman Group does important work managing a self-regulatory system that ensures the alcohol industry markets products responsibly and protects consumers as well as encouraging a balanced debate on alcohol and health.  We recognise the significant contribution that everyone in our team makes and ensure that this is reflected in our benefits and package.

Our values are embedded in our purpose and taking responsibility mission. Across the three pillars of individual, team and society we take responsibility to provide practical approaches to galvanising our people and to create a culture in which people are encouraged to do their best work. Some of the ways we show these in action is through our learning culture, our supportive cross team working and delivering our important  remit. Although we are a small, diverse team and geographically spread we come together regularly to coordinate our work, share industry and professional news as well as at least once a month for team lunches or other social, training and team building activities.

Bringing the best people together

We are motivated to build a strong and effective team and hold that success is more likely when there is diversity of thought, opinion and background. We do not tolerate discrimination on the basis of gender, sexuality, race, disability or age. We are supportive of developing each of us in the team, from training, mentoring, or supporting professional memberships. We are a flexible employer and open to other adaptations to enable people to succeed in the workplace.

We want the best people across the whole of the UK and know that talented people aren’t necessarily based near our office. This is why we have team members across the UK. We operate a hybrid working model with two days a week in the office if you are near Borough High Street, London, or there is also access to a shared office in Edinburgh with a sister member body. Even if you can’t get to the office regularly, it is important that we get to know each other as a team to help enable culture, collaboration and creativity. As such we seek to bring everyone together bi-monthly for a day session (expenses paid).

We also know that productivity isn’t shown through the number of hours spent at the desk but your output. So, we support applications for compressed or reduced hours, with that flexibility depending on ability to deliver the core requirements of the role.
