Response to the the Royal College of Psychiatrists survey on home drinking

Matt Lambert, CEO of the Portman Group – the alcohol social responsibility body and marketing regulator said:

“More than 30 pieces of research have shown there is a majority of moderate drinkers with four in five people continuing to drink within the Chief Medical Officer’s 14 unit a week guidelines under lockdown. Most are shown to be drinking the same, or less than they did before.

“A small minority who were already drinking at heavier rates have increased their drinking. They are likely to have faced difficulties accessing support during 2021 due to the restrictions and subsequent backlogs from the pandemic. We welcome government commitment to increase funding for treatment services targeting those at highest need.”
