Response to the Scottish Government’s publication of the Scottish Health Survey and report on crime

Following the Scottish Government’s publication of the Scottish Health Survey and a new report on crime in Scotland, John Timothy, CEO of the Portman Group, the social responsibility and regulatory body for alcohol in the UK, commented:

“For more than a decade we have seen a steady and persistent fall in drinking in Scotland. Weekly unit intake is now at its lowest levels on record with the vast majority drinkers staying within the CMO guidelines. Alongside this, there has also been a staggering 86% drop in the number of recorded offences of drunkenness and disorderly conduct in Scotland over the past decade, with this year’s figures falling by almost a quarter.

“These figures are cause for celebration and illustrative of a moderate majority enjoying alcohol responsibly.”
